A story starting in 1796

The origin of the cellar roots in the ancient story of the della Gherardesca family. Since the mid-nineties Federico Zileri Dal Verme has taken over the family tradition, with the goal to produce wines that represent the highest expression of Bolgheri's terroir, in terms of complexity, elegance and longevity.

From his passion, together with the great contribution of the company team, the two labels are born: Castello di Bolgheri DOC Bolgheri Superiore and Varvàra DOC Bolgheri Rosso, named after the owner's great-grandmother.

A family history
The signboard, affixed to the facade, shows the date of construction of the cellar

The cellar, finished in 1796, is located in the middle of the hamlet of Bolgheri and develops on two floors.

On the first floor, located at the level of the main road, you will find the wine shop, where you can taste and buy the estate's products and learn about its ancient history.

On the same floor, is the area of vinification/warehouse with cement tanks, in which the final ageing takes place after spending a period in wood. The lower floor is underground and divided in a vinification area with temperature-controlled steel tanks and an area for ageing in wood vassels whith barriques, tonneaux and oak tanks.
